Butterfly State is the creation of Glenn Seburn, hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Glenn is a bassist, songwriter and lyricist who has taken a winding path through the musical landscape. In addition to playing in church worship bands for many years, Mr. Seburn has contributed studio and live support to several fledgling groups with styles ranging from experimental to folk to indie rock. In 2003 he joined the local Winnipeg group Isaiah’s Answer, releasing 2 original CDs, touring around Manitoba and garnering airplay locally and through-out Canada. From 2009 to 2012 Glenn played bass for the classic rock band Str8 Jak~it, performing at bars and clubs in Winnipeg and surrounding area. These experiences have given Glenn skills in songwriting, arranging and performing.
Bringing Glenn’s songs to life is the wonderful Butterfly State band consisting of the emotive vocals of Rhonda & Jim Spurgeon, Dustin Kubi and Alex Enns providing crunchy and melodic electric guitars, all held together by the solid grooves of Mike Enzlberger on drums.
Butterfly State’s debut CD of original songs, “Halfway Up the Hill” was released in 2015. Dedicated to 'late bloomers', the stylistically diverse songs covered the subjects of doubt, introspection, yearning and hope. Now with the eminent release of a second album, entitled “Roar”, each track takes the listener on a journey through themes of personal struggle, resilience, and ultimate triumph while acknowledging a higher power. The album is a testament to the band’s ability to craft music that is both emotionally charged and musically compelling.
2025 will see an official album release show, more live performances and more tunes being cooked up as we explore new musical territory.t
